Earth's Destruction and the Hope in the Ecologist is the name of a volume, written by Gustavo Portocarrero and recently published by Whitehall Printing Company with a content of 426 pages.

The writer —Journalist, Attorney at Law, Degree in Philosophy and former University Professor— is the first who analyzes the environmental problems of the planet in a strict and methodical way and his conversion into a determined ecologist fighter against the real destructors of the planet.

This book is number eleven of Portocarrero’s publications and starts with a summary of the geological origins of the Earth and biological origins of life from the human beings arising on its surface and accomplishing domination of the planet. The book seeks to make readers aware of the long time of planetary evolution for many millions of years, although all that time means nothing right now, because all of the Earth is going to be destroyed.

These dangers are developed in several chapters:

1. DESTRUCTION OF THE ANIMAL KINGDOM refers to attempted crimes against the animal species (hunting for pleasure and gambling), commercial sadism (in circuses and other shows), scientific sadism in laboratories for research and investigation, and barbaric treatment of animals on industrialized farms.

2. DESTRUCTION OF THE MINERAL KINGDOM contains: the accelerated contamination of the waters, the accelerated pollution of the atmosphere; pollution of the land, the heating of the Earth (the Greenhouse Effect), and the risks of the technology of climatic war.

3. DESTRUCTION OF THE VEGETABLE KINGDOM contains: the deforestation, desertification, and transgenic problems.

4. DESTRUCTION OF THE EARTH’S RELIEF contains: the problems of war, nuclear explosions, and expressions of indignation.

5. DESTRUCTION OF MANKIND contains results of society, society against mankind, vices against mankind, pernicious effects, and physical plot.

The first part of the book ends with reflections on facts and consequences about the environment where humans destroy, the atrocious consequences, the almost alive expression of Death, the almost dead expression of Life. It sends a warning to humanity to consider that if we respond with deafness to the Earth’s laments, then life goes away. It includes a small poetic dream about the Earth’s death.

The second part of the book analyzes the alternative title: Disaster or Salvation? In order to justify salvation, it discusses the opinions of the Earth’s defenders, the bright ecologists: the Indian Chief Noah Sealt, the tireless Judi Barri, the tenacious Barry Horne, the Greenpeace Organization, and others. There are analyses of ecologists’ efforts.

The matter of international environment meetings, the statements and incidents in those meetings, and the development of ecologists’ new strategies based on the failure of their past objectives, is also analyzed. These sections reveal the problem of the ecologists’ fight, and positive ideas emerging from the current situation.

Three chapters relate to anti-ecological campaigns of the destroyers, polemic chapters of the present and the inability of governments to punish polluting companies. First, it shows a well mounted campaign by businesses against ecological organizations, clear attitudes about obscure endings, identification of certain business entities, and the discovery of certain ghost organizations. Second, it reveals the discovery of some key persons: an Unhidden American Defiant, a Shameless European Defiant, and the Know-it-All South American Defiant. Third, it shows the title: from hating ecologists to hating ecology and viewing ecology as nonsense.

In addition, it includes a chapter relating to the United Nations’ belief in a necessity for a World Constitution that now already exists, named: the Chart of the Earth. All of its articles have been made to protect our planet against destruction and give basic regulations for the Earth’s treatment.

The last part shows the increasing problems of the planet: overpopulation, the crisis of sustainability, and the necessity of decisive universal measures. It also includes one chapter about the many paths of destruction, multiple actions, hostilities, effects of global warming on world markets, and finally: The Death of Life or Salvation.

The book ends with hope toward a new ecological world and a positive future for ecology.
